Energy Poverty is a major impediment to health, education, and economic progress in Africa. In recent years, loadshedding has worsened, with a majority of African countries experiencing power cuts, in some cases, for days on end.
Most of these countries are under global pressure - mostly from Western countries- to move from non-renewable energy sources like coal to renewable sources. Predominantly, wind and solar energy sources are being pushed. The question African countries should be asking is, "Will wind and solar address the energy needs of the continent?"
According to Princess Mthombeni , the short is answer is, "No."
She advocates, instead, that we go for nuclear energy.
