US Railcar designs two types of railcars, self-propelled and non-powered commuter coaches, which are available in single or bi-level. The single level vehicles can carry up to 94 passengers, 188 for the bi-levels.
Prior to its purchase, Colorado Railcar Manufacturing (CRM) created a revolutionary DMU design that hauls more passengers, at high speeds, in maximum comfort, using 1/3 the fuel of a locomotive pulled passenger train. More than a streetcar, the DMU is at home on freight rails and meets FRA certification. Light weight with a low step up, it is equally at home in light rail applications.
Unfortunately, CRM closed its doors in December 2008. US Railcar, LLC has purchased the assets of CRM and will resume production in 2009. For more information call 614-246-9465.
