Canadian Pacific 4-6-2 No. 1238 steaming over former Chesapeake & Ohio rails near Covington, Virginia, in 1979. The operation was known as the Alleghany Central Railroad, and was operated by Jack Showalter and his family. The train made a 2 hour, 25-mile round trip over the C&O's Hot Springs Branch (now removed) from Intervale Station to Jenkins Ford. The locomotive was one of a pair of CP Pacific's on the Alleghany Central, and is now in Canada awaiting restoration.
