Îvîsê Mi (My Ivis) - Vengê Ma

In the heart of Dersim, in the year 1938, a legend was forged in blood, bravery, and the unforgiving terrain of a sacred valley. This is "Îvîsê Mi" (My Ivis), a cinematic and orchestral elegy dedicated to the legendary Kurdish fighter, Îvîsê Sey Kalîyî of the Demenan clan, and his heroic last stand in the gorge of Dereyê Laç.

This is not just a song; it is a short film set to music, a requiem for a historical tragedy. The story is a harrowing one: as the army sought to enter the valley to massacre the civilians hiding within its caves, Îvis and his small band of fighters became the last line of defense. They held the pass, fighting with legendary courage against impossible odds. It is said that only after the death of Îvis himself could the soldiers finally enter Dereyê Laç. His fall was the fall of the valley.

Our work is a musical embodiment of the poem written by an eyewitness to the tragedy, Welîyê Uşênê Îmamî. His words, penned in the very year of the event, are not a distant reflection but a raw, immediate testimony. The poem functions like the chorus in a Greek tragedy, with the poet speaking directly to the hero, his words a desperate mix of warning, admiration, and ultimately, heart-shattering grief.

The music mirrors this epic scope. It is not a traditional song, but a cinematic score for this unwritten film. The sweeping orchestra, powerful choir, and tense, driving percussion are all designed to transport you to that fateful day in the Laç Valley. The powerful vocals carry the weight of the poet's lament, a father-like figure watching a beloved son go into a battle he cannot win, but must fight.

The army is in front of you.
My Îvis, turn yourself to the stone.
The army is in front of you,
Oh my dear one, turn yourself back to the stone.

As the steel [bullet] struck my Îvis,
The soldiers entered the valley!

Who will take the news to your mother and father, my heart?
In this world, this is unbearable to witness.
Oh God, what a calamity is the home-destroying pain of losing one's child.

He says, "Father, we are all in this struggle together,
Do not leave my dead body here, take it with you."

Today the struggle was hard
on the side of Pêtere.
My Îvis was killed!
