The Scotch Whisky Region Challenge: Top Single Malt Scotch Whisky Picks For Each Whisky Region

One of the amazing things about Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the wonderful variety of different whisky styles and flavour profiles you could try. It can all be a little bit overwhelming to try and keep them all straight. One of the ways Scotch Whisky blenders used to do this was by organizing them by one of the 5(or 6) Scotch Whisky regions as whiskies from the same region shared some similar characteristics. Nowadays the Scotch Whisky region a Single Malt is from can't necessarily be used to determine what what flavours it has, but it still has some usefulness for organizing a whisky category which has over 150 distilleries. Which brings us to the question: If you had to pick just one Single Malt Scotch Whisky to represent each of the 6 Single Malt Scotch Whisky Regions, which ones would they be? What would be your Top 6 Whiskies to represent the Scotch Whisky Regions?

Big thanks to Phil who the challenged me to make my list. For my list I threw my own kind of spin on it. I picked a Quintessential Single Malt Scotch Whisky to represent as a classic example representing each Scotch whisky Region. I then gave what is my current top pick for a the Single Malt Scotch Whisky that best represents that Scotch Whisky Region at this moment. My picks have to be Official Bottlings so no Independent bottlings or single casks can be included in this challenge. I then finish off my list at the end with some honourable mentions. The 6 Scotch Whisky Regions are:

Highland
Speyside
Lowland
Campbeltown
Islands
Islay
