When you think of German battleships, you probably think of the WW2 ships. Bismarck, Tirpitz and the Scharnhorsts. Maybe you'll also think of the WW1 dreadnoughts.
The Pre-Dreadnoughts, on the other hand, tend to slip under the radar. With the obvious exception of Schleswig-Holstein.
In today's video, we'll be looking at a different example. SMS Hessen, a very long-lived ship. From her commissioning in 1905, to her final scrapping around 1960. This ship served four different fleets, three stages of the German Navy and the Soviet Navy. In a career beginning as a pre-dreadnought battleship. And ending as a target ship.
An interesting life, really.
