Morning Meteorologist Ryan DePhillips has a look at the weather ahead. High-level clouds are overhead but while dry air with mostly light winds have led to very chilly conditions to start for many, it's not quite as cold for most, also because of slightly stronger winds going down the east slopes of the Central Mountains that have created a milder effect compared to yesterday morning along the east-sloped mountainous areas. Below-freezing temperatures are still confined to some areas in the northwestern corner of the region, while everywhere else from even the northern parts of Rio Grande Valley to the south and east is mostly ranging from the high 30s to the lower 50s. Clouds will pass through high above the ground with above-normal temperatures for all. Areas to the north will mostly range from the high 50s to the lower 70s, while 70s & 80s will mostly develop from the Rio Grande Valley to southern areas, more likely breaking record territory for some. Low-level moisture has mostly dispersed as the pendulum swing pattern of somewhat-damp mornings out east with breezy easterly winds shifting to southwesterly drier winds in the afternoons will still continue periodically ahead. A slight ridge in the southwesterly jet stream will continue to lead to more downsloping winds sinking down the northeastern mountain slopes, compressing surface air while keeping conditions much warmer than normal with the dry air today into tomorrow especially. Northern areas to the high elevations will then experience wet to wintry mountain weather with the next storm system finally moving in later into the weekend with colder air and gusty winds switching direction. Chilly rain showers in northern to northeastern areas & snow showers are spiraling in the higher elevations, especially in the Northern Mountains.
