Krithi: Ennaganu Rama bhajana
Ragam: Pantuvarali
Thalam: Rupakam
Composer: Bhadrachala Ramadasu

Vocal: Savitha Narasimhan

Savitha Narasimhan, Born into a family of connoisseurs of music and starting Carnatic music lessons at an early age from Sankara Sarma, a worthy practitioner of the Alathur school, Savita enjoyed a privileged musical upbringing, training with Rama Ravi, a prime exemplar of the iconic Veena Dhanammal school and OV Subramaniam, the patriarch of an orthodox yet evocative bani of music. She stands prominent among vocalists of her generation, owing to her sensitive and nuanced rendering of ragas. With a pitch-perfect voice of rare emotional appeal to the connoisseur and common man alike and a family legacy of music lovers, Savita has had the musical upbringing that many vie for. She has two decades of experience as a Carnatic vocalist and is also an A-grade artiste of All India Radio and Doordarshan. She sings extensively for Indian theatre and classical dance as well. Savitha is a recipient of the Kalki Krishnamurthy Memorial award, Sangeet Natak Akademi's Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar and Shanmukhananda Sangeeta Sabha's Sangeeta Shiromani, among others. Her brainchild, MOPA (Museum of Performance Arts) is a wide umbrella under which one can experience artistic and cultural orientation of South Indian culture.

Violin: Sudha R S Iyer
Mridangam: Ramaiah Vittal
Ghadam : G Ravichandran

This beautiful composition by Bhadrachala Ramadas praises Lord Rama as the supreme source of joy and protection. It reminds us that worldly pleasures are temporary, but Rama’s compassion is eternal. By constantly chanting his name with love, devotees receive both their wishes and the highest blessing of liberation.

Meaning:

Is there really any greater joy (delight) than singing the praise of Lord Rama?

O mind, think of and praise Lord Sri Ramachandra. What real benefit is there in seeking the help of mere mortals (other people’s mercy)?

With his bow in hand, Rama destroys sin like the blazing fire that burns away dry grass. Even the most beautiful forms and youthful charms of this world are fleeting like lightning; only Rama’s divine form is eternal and auspicious.

Rama always protects those who surrender to him with his boundless compassion, making his promise the ultimate refuge. Is there any other refuge apart from Rama’s protection? Even when facing the greatest sinners or enemies (like Surpanakha, Ravana), Rama might display anger, but in the end he showers supreme compassion and grace upon those who turn to him.

Like the pet parrot that is lovingly raised and constantly repeats “Rama, Rama, Ramayana,” may the mind too keep chanting Rama’s name with love, since Rama alone is the refuge. That Rama, the Lord of Bhadrachala, out of overflowing love, grants all desired fruits (boons) to his devotees, and ultimately bestows Kaivalya (liberation, supreme bliss).
