This is a video of the Hastings High Bridge "Old Blue" dropping into the Mississippi River. It was taken from the patio of the American Legion along Levee Park. It is shortly before 4:00am Monday morning, Veteran's Day. The temperature is 33 degrees, I am looking directly into heavy wind, falling rain, ice and snow.
Here's a tip while watching...Keep an eye on the bridge light next to the left edge of Old Blue. With all of the snow coming down it was actually really hard for me to see it moving. I stopped recording and took the photo that is in the middle of the video, then I put the camera in my coat to warm it up. All of a sudden I heard a noise, I only had seconds to get the camera back on the tripod and turned on again before "Old Blue" started to fall. I really lucked out. Dave — at Hastings, MN.
