The Arts and Crafts movement responsible for bringing Craftsman homes to American soil stood against the dehumanizing Industrial Revolution as well as the over decorated Victorians that were most popular among the wealthy at the time, and the humble Craftsman Bungalow quickly became a beloved style among the working class, even becoming the most popular home style from 1905 into the 1920s. They were made even more accessible through whole housing kits available for purchase through the Sears Catalog, which is why you may find yourself driving through streets of house after house that are all slightly different variations of the Craftsman Bungalow in areas that grew quickly though an economic boom around 1910-1940. Hallmarks of this architectural style include earthy colors and textures, partially open floorplans with easy access to kitchen and living spaces alike, low pitched roofs, large decks, and lots of well crafted wooden windows, arches, doors, and more.
