Walk with me through St. Pauli — Hamburg’s most iconic, most infamous, and most misunderstood neighborhood.
We start at the Green Bunker, a WWII flak tower turned eco-monument and creative hub. From there, we explore the Karoviertel, the rebellious cousin of neighboring gentrification. Next we hit the Schanzenviertel, where anarchists and freelancers stare each other down from opposite cafés, before we dive headfirst into St. Pauli proper — and yes, we do talk about the brothels, the Beatles, and the police station across from Burger King.
But St. Pauli is more than Reeperbahn. It’s theater, music, art, activism — and a constant push and pull between rebellion and commercialism.
