First time at Buttonwillow with the GT4RS — and my first time back here in over a decade. This track has always been iconic for time attack, and coming from NorCal’s smoother surfaces, Buttonwillow is a very different challenge. It’s technical, bumpy, and really exposes both driver inputs and car setup.
Going into the day, goal was to see if we could get close to a 1:55. With clean laps and no traffic, the car surprisingly settled into consistent 1:53s, with a best of 1:53.08.
The car is still on OEM suspension, and you can really see how unsettled it gets through high-speed sections with bumps — especially in the kink before heading up Phil Hill. Looking back, I probably could’ve helped stability with a wider, smoother entry.
Plenty to learn here, but a solid first day back. With more reps at Buttonwillow, I’m confident low-51s are achievable.
