Turning a Rusty Bearing Inner Ring into a Wood Chisel | Blacksmithing Tools
An old blacksmith took a worn-out rusty bearing inner ring and turned it into a fully functional wood chisel all by hand using age-old blacksmithing techniques. He began by heating the bearing ring until it turned red hot then skillfully cut it open with an iron chisel. After reheating it in a traditional kiln he carefully forged it into the shape of a chisel with his hammer bringing life back to the old metal.
Next he crafted a wooden handle by shaping a piece of wood and drilling a center hole using a manual hand drill. The chisel was then cleaned ground and hardened through traditional methods. But the detail did not stop there. From an old iron sheet he cut a small guard ring and fitted it onto the wooden handle giving it both strength and character. Finally after heating the chisel’s tang he secured it tightly into the prepared handle completing a tool made entirely by hand.
This project is a perfect example of antique craftsmanship showing how blacksmiths once created essential tools without modern machinery. A glimpse into the timeless art of forging and traditional craftsmanship where skill patience and creativity come together.
