@WanderlustMAX I spend two nights camping at Lake of the Woods Aspen Point Campground on the crest of the Southern Oregon Cascades between Medford and Klamath Falls, Oregon. I hiked around most of the lake, checked out the resort and found some random structures decaying buildings. I came across different kinds of wildlife along the way; mostly dear and squirrels.
Come to this Mountain Lake, for here is rest and peacefulness. Here Bob and Francis WILT enjoyed many years of wonderful memories.
They fished the lake far and wide, the squirrels would come sit on their knees, the birds would wake them in the mornings Please take a walk out on the dock and take in the beauty of this place they loved.
Lake of the Woods Mountain Lodge and resort:
This high mountain historic lake resort sits beside one of the clearest natural lakes found in the Southern Oregon Cascades. One can enjoy cabin life, comfort food, the wonders of nature, and a variety of outdoor recreational activities... summer & winter!
There are 2 beautiful campgrounds on the east side of the lake: Aspen Point and Sunset. Space Abounds, you’ll feel at home…especially if you’re FROM outer space, like me.

The next day I took in views of Mount McLoughlin and then trudged into the Fremont-Winema National Forest to complete the Rye Spur trail. It's a nearly 10 mile loop that provides breathtaking views of Upper Klamath Lake, the Great Meadow and the Klamath basin. I used a GoPro to film underwater shots of the Upper Canal Nordic Trail and explain the difference between a Ridge and a Spur in geographical terms. I used a DJI 4K Mini Drone for aerial footage of Lake of the Woods, the Great Meadow and Rye Spur. I could also see upper Klamath Lake from Rye Spur.
Inevitably on these long mountain hikes I end up walking some gravel road.
I was getting Major Christmas Tree farm vibes as I made my way down between the even-aged tree stands. I found several examples of cougar droppings as I made my way hiking along the Rye Spur loop. It was a long hike, but fun to circumnavigate a spur near the crest of the Cascade Mountain Range in Southern Oregon near Klamath Falls.
