We find ourselves in an age of intensive transformation of the world, which requires all-encompassing transformation processes of society and people – with historical references Karl Polanyi already referred to in 1944 as The Great Transformation.
Following the concept of transformative science, transdisciplinary approaches are required for research into social transformation processes.
In this talk, Maria will problematise the societal transformation and its impact on and interwovenness with science to emphasise the need for a transdisciplinary approach to face with calls for transformation. She will
present some methodological and metatheoretical notes along these questions: a) How is transformation as an epistemological concept defined? b) How is the relationship between science and society to mark the necessity of transdisciplinarity? c) What is transdisciplinarity and what are the principles of this holistic approach which addresses the relation between science and society? d) What implications have these considerations on science and research practices?
