What if trucks and cars couldn't get to the port in Holyhead?
The Britannia Bridge is the only single carriageway stretch along the whole of the A55. The rest has been upgraded to a dual carriageway over the years.
Following a massive fire in 1970 the Britannia railway bridge was rebuilt and in 1980 a road deck was added to it. It's now some 44 years later and the bridge is buckling under the strain from todays modern traffic.
With it being the only bridge that is fit for carrying HGV's and freight over 7.5ton, what would happen if the bridge suffered another disaster, or even if the bridge was just out of action due to adverse weather?
The irony is that if those 2 boys who accidently started the fire hadn't have done, there would have had to a brand new road bridge built a long time ago.
We discuss it in this video.
