Bridal Veil Falls: Skykomish River Valley (Day Hiking Washington)

When we left the house, we never expected to end up at the Lake Serene trailhead. The weather prediction promised sunshine and clear skies, so we chose a hike with a grand view of the Skykomish River Valley's dramatic peaks (Index and Baring Mountains). However, when we arrived at the trailhead of our anticipated "view" hike, all the peaks were enshrouded in thick, dark clouds.

We decided it would be better to save the "view" hike for a day when we could actually enjoy the "view." So we drove to Plan B trailhead. But the parking lot was mostly full and not wanting to join the crowds, we considered Plan C, another "view" hike. Nope, Plan C wouldn't work either since the point of doing a "view" hike is to actually see the "view." If there would be no view on Plan A, then certainly Plan C was out also. So we moved on to Plan D, a waterfall hike. That's how we ended up in the Lake Serene Trailhead parking lot. Our hike would be to an old favorite: Bridal Veil Falls.

Lucky for us, there was still plenty of parking at the ever-popular Lake Serene Trailhead even though we didn't arrive till after noon. We actually ate our "trail" lunch in the car before hiking. It turned out to be an excellent choice for the day, we even had peekaboo views of the valley and Mount Index. Also, most cars in the parking lot must have been for Lake Serene because we were the only hikers on the Bridal Veil Falls trail. It was a lovely day to a beautiful waterfall!
