✝️ “When someone becomes a Christian, they become a brand new person inside. They are not the same anymore. A new life has begun!”
2 Corinthians 5 verse 17, Living Bible
✝️ “When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you."
Isaiah 43 verse 2, New Living Translation
VIDEO OVERVIEW:
Several fires have swept through the Suiattle River valley in recent years:
2020 Downey Creek
2022 Suiattle River
2022 Boulder Lake
2023 Tenas Creek
2023 Huckleberry Flats
2024 The Miners Complex
While hiking through the burned forest on the Downey Creek trail, we observed lots of new growth. It’s been 5 years since the fire and the forest recovery is obvious and a joy to behold! Also, it's a marvel how many of the huge, old trees survived the fire. The evidence of new life sprouting up all around us and the resilience of the old growth reminded us of the Bible verses above.
Unfortunately, during a recent storm, many trees and branches fell across the trail making travel difficult. It became such a chore we bailed and headed to another trail. Plan B turned out to be a much better option. The few trees that were down were easy to maneuver. The trail was lined with interesting flora and fungi. This trail is many miles long, but we only went one mile, to a small waterfall, before turning around. We ended the day with a fabulous feast at a nearby campground.
