Written in 1825 by Franz Schubert, Ave Maria is among his most beloved works. It did not begin as a church prayer, but as “Ellen’s Third Song” from The Lady of the Lake. Its opening words—Ave Maria (“Hail Mary”)—led the melody to be paired so often with the Catholic prayer that many later assumed it was written for that purpose.

Over time, its gentle simplicity and quiet dignity carried it far beyond its literary origins—into weddings, memorials, and film. From intimate moments to its iconic appearance in Disney’s Fantasia, where it follows Night on Bald Mountain, the music has become a universal language of solace and reverence.

This is not a performance meant to impress, but a quiet space to rest—with the music, and with yourself.

Adapted for piano, these timeless melodies are reimagined as Songs Without Words — allowing the vocal line to sing through touch, harmony, and phrasing. Freed from text, the music opens into a reflective instrumental space, where emotion unfolds quietly, and meaning lingers beyond words.


🎵 About Songs Without Words

"Songs Without Words" is inspired by Felix Mendelssohn’s lyrical piano works, where the piano sings without lyrics, carrying emotion, memory, and meaning through melody alone. The idea of expressing stories through music — without words, without lyrics — has always fascinated me, and led me to create this series.

My version of "Songs Without Words" brings together melodies from different cultures, eras, and traditions — from classical music to operatic arias, from popular songs to folk melodies — curated into distinct sub-collections, each exploring a different musical heritage, carefully arranged, adapted, and improvised.

When familiar melodies touch the heart, meaning needs no words.
