Cape Cross Rescue Days Are Brutal!

Cape Cross rescue days are different. They are long, exhausting, and emotionally intense. The OCN rescue team covers a lot of ground, and they have to make every minute count.
We often only get one shot every few weeks to rescue entangled seals here. During breeding season, the colony cannot be disturbed at all. So, when we do come, we give it everything: running hard, scanning fast, and trying to save as many as we can.
But every rescue here comes at a cost. Disturbing the colony disrupts critical rest. Mothers get separated from their pups. Hungry animals waiting to recover from fishing trips are pushed back into the ocean. That’s why our work has to be precise, fast, and worthwhile. Because if we miss one seal, we might not get another chance for weeks.
