Comiso Air Base Today 2020 (Ex Base Nato Militare Americana)

Journey inside the former Nato American Military Base in Comiso.

Up to 28 years ago, the largest military base in southern Europe was located here in Comiso, where during the Cold War it kept under Soviet military control. The structure, in an area now abandoned to all types of parking, was chosen by the United States to house 112 nuclear warhead cruise missiles. It is now a ghost town with houses, schools, kindergartens, and much more.

Today the entire NATO base is of regional state property. The structures are in use and granted to the Municipality of Comiso which hopefully one day will finally find any company or private individual to be able to invest here and redevelop the entire area.With this small documentary made last year, we show you this ghost town through our eyes and the signs of time and the majestic nature that has sneaked in to leave a footprint to say the least frightening in all these years of abandonment and barbarism.
We thank several Americans who were able to give us other video material made in those years.

Viaggio all'interno dell'ex Base Nato Militare Americana di Comiso.

Qui a Comiso fino a 28 anni fa aveva sede la più grande base nato militare di tutta l'Europa meridionale dove in piena Guerra Fredda teneva sotto scacco l'Unione Sovietica. La struttura, in un'area oggi abbandonata ad ogni tipo di saccheggio, era stata scelta dagli Stati Uniti per custodire 112 missili Cruise a testata nucleare. Adesso è una città fantasma con case, scuole, asili, e molto altro ancora.

Oggi l'intera Base Nato è di demanio regionale. Le strutture sono in uso e concessione al Comune di Comiso che si spera un giorno, possa finalmente trovare una società o un privato qualsiasi per poter investire qui dentro e riqualificare l'intera area.Con questo piccolo documentario realizzato l'anno scorso, vi mostriamo questa città fantasma attraverso i nostri occhi e ai segni del tempo e della natura maestosa che si è insidiata per lasciare un impronta a dir poco spaventosa in tutti questi anni di abbandono e barbarie.
