Astrophysicist Professor Giovanna Tinetti explores exoplanets – far away planets beyond our solar system that we might one day be able to inhabit.
With the explosion in data from space missions such as NASA’s Kepler, researchers have observed more than 3,500 planets orbiting around stars.
In fact, the latest estimates indicate that, on average, every star in our galaxy has at least one planet orbiting it. That’s over a thousand billion planets crowding the Milky Way alone.
Discover how new techniques in machine learning allow researchers to analyse atmospheric data to understand which extrasolar planets out there might be habitable – or perhaps even inhabited.
