#18 How to use the Anchor Buddy mooring system on Shenango Lake. Shenango River. Sport Nautique. Published June 22, 2020.
In this video, I explain our mooring system that we use with our 1994 Correct Craft Sport Nautique when we’re camping along the shoreline of the lake. Items needed are: a lake anchor, section of chain, the Anchor Buddy, section of rope the length of the boat from front to back, multiple boat snap hooks, and section of rope used to connect the back of the boat to shore. I’m very particular about our boat, and probably keep it a bit deeper in the water than needed. I like to leave the prop about 5-feet above the lake floor, so that as the lake level fluctuates, or wake from other boats moves our boat around, there is no chance our inboard prop hits the lake bottom floor. To set the boat in place on the lake, I have all the components (all connected as one mooring system) in the front of the boat. Once we’re the correct distance from shore (depending on depth/slope of the lake floor) and in a straight line from where we want to have the boat mooring, we drop the anchor, rope, and Anchor buddy over the front of the boat. We connect the hook of those pieces, attached to a mooring buoy, to the front eyelet of the boat. I then back towards shore, to pull some stretch into the anchor buddy. I connect the boat-length rope (in our case this is white rope) to the back of the boat. It simply floats beside the boat. Then I take the shore-line rope (in our case this rope is yellow) to shore. I make sure that I attach to shore so that the anchor buddy is stretched, but not entirely tight. I like to pull it back until it is tight, and then let it out 6-10 feet. Then I attach the shore line to something stable on shore. That allows for stretch in the Anchor Buddy as the water raises and lowers, and to compensate for wake/waves. Our entire system, from anchor to end of shore line rope is probably about 100+ yards.
