Nap-of-the-earth flight, featured in Top Gun: Maverick, is a type of military flight where an aircraft flies at very low altitude to avoid radar detection by hiding in the terrain.
In this video, an aircraft is "flown" by an optimization algorithm, with the goal of maintaining both low altitude and fastest speed. The problem is solved first at a high-level (by motion planning w/ discrete pathfinding, which is globally optimal but neglects vehicle dynamics), and then with the full aircraft dynamics using AeroSandbox (the optimization suite that's part of my Ph.D. work). Visualization using PyVista.
