Object Masking in Xara Designer

Learn how to mask objects in photos in Xara Designer Pro, isolate objects from their background and create interesting multi-layer effects, by placing objects in photos in front of text or other objects. In this tutorial for Xara Designer Pro X, I walk you through several tools and workflows that help you isolate or remove backgrounds from photos, isolate objects, place objects in front of other elements and create cool posters, titles and layouts.

Xara Designer Pro X includes masking but not in a way you'd expect - masking in Xara Designer Pro X is just a bitmap fill. No matter how you create the mask (using the Shape tool, various shape combinations, lines and nodes), you end up with a shape you can 'fill' with an object or bitmap. In this video, I show you how you can do this, how to build the shape that becomes the mask, how to place objects inside using combine tools, how to adjust and alter the shape using Bezier editing of nodes, and more.
