On September 9, 1987, Cardinals 1st baseman Jack Clark injures his leg in Montreal which leaves him unable to start in the playoffs. He will be replaced by 15 year veteran, Dan Driessen. Now, the man who was supposed to start Game One for the Cardinals, Danny Cox, also has an injured leg, and cannot pitch. He will be replaced by left-hander, Greg Mathews.
Going to the mound for the Giants is late season pickup, Rick Reuschel.
