When Should Baby Roll Over, Reach for Toys, and Sit With Support?

Baby is moving a lot more by their half birthday! They can now roll in both directions, reach for toys while on their tummy, and start to sit up using their hands for support! These 4-6 month motor milestones are important signs that Baby is growing typically and gaining the skills they'll need for future development.

Tracking these milestones helps you support healthy motor development and notice if Baby needs a little extra help.

Baby should meet these motor milestones by 6 months:

✅ Rolls from back to tummy and tummy to back
✅ While on tummy, pushes up on straight arms
✅ Reaches for toys while on tummy
✅ While lying on back, reaches both hands to play with feet
✅ Uses hands to support self while sitting
✅ Keeps head upright when in supported positions, e.g. sitting, standing, being held

If Baby isn’t meeting their 4–6 month motor milestones, talk to their healthcare provider. Early help for potential difficulties or delays can make a big difference in Baby’s development. Remember, it’s never too early (or too late) to get Baby on the right pathway!
