This exercise at the center uses constant repeated brushes with the accent out in the exercise work to prepare for the challenge of heightened speed, articulation, and stamina for choreography built on fast, traveling movement.
The attention is on how to use that extra moment between beats to achieve greater extension and articulation when taking fast traveling leaps, runs and big jumps. Heightened energy and stamina required to maintain the constant pulse develops while moving through different changes. A strong standing side strengthens while working to control each shift. Every brush through first position is used to reinforce center through the body. The emphasis throughout is on the stretch between the legs as part of the constant reach for space which Graham vocabulary is well known . No moment is static.
