Diesel-electric loco units, normal gauge, type Bo'-Bo'de. German construction, assembled in Switzerland, equipped with two diesel engines giving a combined power 2700 HP (2100 KW) for the 3-phase axle motors. They weight 80 tons and are capable for 160 km/h top speed. Convertible to electric locomotives of 5000 HP and top speed up to 200 km/h, this conversion though was never scheduled. OSE ordered 25 locos in 1995, that were put in service in 1998 as series A471 - A495. 11 more units were purchased and in 2002 while numbering changed to 220.001 - 220.036. then in use by TRAINOSE. Most of them are now leased to HT, hauling both passenger and freight trains but one, 220.032 leased to Goldair (ex Rail Cargo-Goldair). Besides, A.482 was destroyed in a collision in 2005. Today many are out of service and some in bad shape are exploited as spare part source. Few are still in use, howling cargo trains on the N.Ikonio – Thriasio line, others are stationed for backup and shunting purposes in Larissa, Alexandroupoli and two more in Lianokladi, that are occasionally put in service on the Stylis branch line.
