go forward in flames

I experienced the beginning of this year like a punch in the gut. Not to be overly dramatic, but when I think about where we are heading as a species, I find myself terrified. However, I'm not here to argue that doomsday is coming - the opposite actually.
Feeling unsettled by the geopolitical reality is a common experience right now. Everyone talks about it, you see it highly concentrated in comment sections and the news are worse than any horror movie.
Most of us can't control current events; we only have a vote once every few years and who can afford to spend their time doing activism in this economy?
So, what can we do to stop worrying?
I think - and this is deeply frustrating - we have to accept our powerlessness. Not in the sense that we stop voicing our own opinions, but rather in the sense that we stop blaming ourselves for all the cruelty people in power cause. Be angry about it, vote against those villains in your next election, but don't tire yourself out by thinking about all the pain you didn't even cause.
In the meantime, make it your mission to connect to people around you. Be kind to strangers, open up to your friends, share the things that mean something to you, especially if you're not sure if people understand (as long as it's safe), because that's how we learn to push the limits of our own perception and become more accepting of each other.
Let's not be frustrated about being unable to tame the beast as an individual and focus all of our energy on building a strong village instead.
To bring across this rather meaningful message in a simple vlog, I chose a video title that resembles this bittersweet sentiment.🔥
I like the fire analogy and it fits well since I filmed our fireplace at home and candles quite often. Although my zodiac sign says something else and any online test will too, I feel most attuned to the fire element.
In the first week of this year I was anxious, but I couldn't do anything about it. I exercised almost every day to tire out my body and feel more at peace and it worked well enough for me to fall asleep in front of the fireplace one time. In my last video I mentioned a quote that literally said something about wanting to rest in front of the fire. That's why I'm grateful that I got to do just that. It's even more special since I was so stressed at the time.
Currently, I'm starting off the Thriller Bark arc on my first One Piece watch. This series feels so relevant in our current time. Just as relevant as LOTR, I'm not kidding. ^^
During the holidays, I read and watched Heated Rivalry like everyone and their moms. I was surprised by how good it was, but this is old news by now.
There are many upcoming releases in the next weeks! Media is the one thing keeping me sane. Without it I would probably go down in flames for real.
I find myself writing longer descriptions for each vlog, trying to connect with the abyss of the internet. Does it work? If you're reading this it did. (:
Thank you so much for watching this video and reading my thoughts. It means more than you know.
Love,
N
