Here we see an instance of the southbound Amtrak Texas Eagle passing through downtown San Marcos back in September of 2024. The quiet zone in town had recently been suspended at the time of filming, so we are treated to Amtrak 58's K5LA horn.
This crossing remains unchanged since my first video from here in 2021. Since the recording of this clip, the last functioning Western Cullen Hayes mechanical bell at this crossing has kicked the bucket. While it still remains installed, time will tell if it is repaired, replaced, or left abandoned to rot. It could go any of the three ways around here.
