My quick and simple guide to removing a Shimano Adapter hub/ Freehub + Shimano 11 speed cassette from a Wahoo Kickr Core, and installing a SRAM XDR Adapter hub/ Freehub and a SRAM 12 Speed cassette.
Make sure you have the correct tools before you start:
A chain whip for the old cassette, a locknut key and an adjustable spanner.
I need to use my new Specialized Aethos, which has a 12 Speed Rival AXS drivetrain, on my indoor trainer, so it is time to remove the old Shimano Ultegra 11 Speed Cassette and Adapter hub and replace it with a new SRAM system.
It is not just as simple as sliding one cassette off and another on. The actual hub must also be replaced as the 2 systems are not compatible. Interestingly, the screw in mechanism for the Shimano cassette is completely different to the SRAM cassette, and the Shimano cassette separates into a number of different pieces whereas the SRAM cassette is a single piece.
