Postpartum bleeding, also known as lochia, is a normal part of recovery after birth—but it can feel confusing and even a little worrying if you don’t know what to expect.
In this video, we’ll cover:
✔️ What it is and why it happens after birth
✔️ The stages of postpartum bleeding (color, flow, and duration)
✔️ What’s considered normal vs. when to call your provider
✔️ Tips for managing bleeding and supporting recovery
💡 Side Note: Passing a clot or two that may be surprisingly large (sometimes as big as a lemon) can happen and may be normal. But if you’re passing multiple large clots consistently, that’s not typical—so be sure to contact your provider right away.
Also, keep an eye out for other warning signs like foul-smelling discharge, fever, or uterine tenderness in the first few weeks. These are important reasons to get checked by your provider.
Understanding postpartum bleeding can help you feel reassured and confident in the weeks after birth.
