How Not To Ref A Hockey Game 101: Komets vs Kalamazoo K-Wings (12/13/2025)

On Friday, December 12, 2025, nothing happened here at Inkling_XA HQ…no, I didn’t listen to the Komets blow a 2-goal lead in 54 seconds and then lose in regulation. No, I didn’t watch a livestream to see my favorite video game lose “Game of the year” honors by an archrival video game. No, I didn’t stat watch assuming Toledo was going to lose to the Roadkill only to see The Fish comeback and win because life is a pretzel. No, I didn’t just spend $250 on an Austin Magera Komets Blackout jersey, okay, that last one is actually a lie. Oh well, could be worse, I could be a Vancouver Canucks fan. Being an Islanders fan isn’t too bad after all.

The Fort Wayne Komets (14-5-2) Is coming off one of their worst meltdowns in Franchise history, blowing a 2 goal in 54 seconds with the goalie pulled. Then blow it once further by allowing Kansas City to win the game with 11 seconds in regulation to steal both points on “Go Go Barron Bunny!” Night. Glad I didn’t go to that game; my mood would have been similar to that of the end of the    • QUICK! CALL THE CARDIOLOGISTS! Komets v Na...   game. Especially having to wait longer to get home for all the stuffed animals to get chucked on the ice. As much as I want to blame it on “der! Kanas City Sports Teams and Taylor Swift BS, der!” The Kansas City Mavericks are based out of Independence, Missouri, nearly an hour east of Kansas City. I’m not that much of sad sack to pull out that sorry excuse for an excuse. The Komets only have themselves to blame. That last 40 minutes was unacceptable. You better believe Jesse Kallechy will be madder than Satan after that poor excuse of defending the lead. Oh yeah, that would be a potential Western Conference Finals matchup if God Forbid the Komets get past Toledo this year. Oh yeah, to make things worse, the Bison and Toledo won last night so the Komets Division lead is now down to 2 points with the Komets dropping to as low as 3rd in the Division if they screw around and find out against Kalamazoo. Oh yeah, the cyanide pill on top is that Tyler Imamoto and Dru Krebs got called up by the Bakersfield Condors, so that defense is only getting worse in the short term. If there was any night the Komets were going to score 10 plus goals in a game out of pure rage, this is the one. The Toronto Maple Leafs of the ECHL the Komets are, forever and ever Amen.

The Kalamazoo K-Wings (7-10-3) Came from behind last night against the Cincinnati Cyclones to win a gutsy hockey game 3-2 in OT. Despite the win they are still in the basement of the Central Division. Kalamazoo has been in the bottom third in almost all major stats. Penalty Kill: 25th, Power Play: 24th, Goals for: 23rd, Goals against: 22nd, Attendance: 26th. It hasn’t been a good start for the K-Wings. If there is anything last year’s K-Wings team proved, is that they can go on a long winning streak outta nowhere. Kalamazoo is only 7 points back of Cincy for 4th in the Division. It’s a long season. Kalamazoo has plenty of Time to turn it around this season. The K-Wings did get a little bit of mixed publicity on social media with their “Wicked” Themed Ice when the Komets were last in Kalamazoo. In which the K-Wings are 1-0 this year against the Komets when the Ice color is not white. I’m personally not a traditionalist and I think the different colored ice is kinda cool Kalamazoo (wait that rhymed!). Just don’t make it an every game occurrence. Keep it a novelty!

The next video from me will be…God knows when 2026? Maybe, there is something a little “special” coming from me soon. Trust me, it’s actually special and not some Genshin Impact video (or Congrats Genshin Impact!! (2025) for what it’s worth) it’s actually a hockey related video.
