The art of storytelling has been a tradition of Africans but this art is gradually being forgotten. Everyone has a story to tell and stories we tell about ourselves are very powerful and help to guide our journey through life.

Uju Akukwe-Nwakalor shares how telling our stories can help in defining who we are and how we need to ensure that our traditions and culture are safeguarded by recording the stories of our past.

Uju Akukwe Nwakalor is a multiple award winning director with a concentration in the use of film as a medium for social work. Her expertise and continuous work in this field led to the award of a certificate of recognition by the California Legislature Assembly for her use of film for community engagement. She is the CEO of Frances Ashley Media and the Managing Partner of Leap Bound Entertainment Limited. She is also an advocate for positive parenting. Ujuaku is a multiple award winning documentary film Director/Producer. Her area of expertise and practice cut across Social works & Creative industries.

She is the CEO of Frances-Ashley Media, a Managing Partner of Leaps Bound Entertainment Ltd, a Social Entrepreneur and an advocate for positive parenting. She was honoured with the Nigeria Women Entrepreneur Award for her contribution to positive parenting through her project “Polishing the Diamonds” and recently received a Certificate of Recognition from California Legislature Assembly for using film as a vehicle for community engagement and education.

She is an Alumnae of the University of Nigeria and the New York Film Academy. Ujuaku is the author of Nuts & Bolts of Parenting and has spoken on various platforms. She is a mum to three teen girls, with a contagious laughter and loves to dance. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
