“Jól” is a short Nordic pagan medieval folk album dedicated to the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year, and to the ancient pre-Christian Nordic celebration of Yule, when fire, community, and ritual marked the turning of time.
This work draws inspiration from historical Norse beliefs, seasonal rites, and the harsh northern winter, approaching the solstice not as a festive spectacle but as a sacred threshold: a moment of darkness, silence, and quiet rebirth.
Through minimalist instrumentation, ritual atmospheres, and medieval Nordic melodies, this album seeks to evoke how Yule may have been felt rather than described, by firelight, beneath snow-covered skies, in the presence of ancestors and spirits.
