This talk with Dr. Brady West provides a practical overview of key considerations underlying the use of survey weights when performing common analyses of complex sample survey data sets collected from probability samples. Topics covered include unequal weighting effects on variance estimates, the importance of descriptive assessments of the survey weights, whether weights are informative, to weight or not to weight when fitting regression models, testing the need for weights when fitting regression models, and more general weighting approaches for non-probability samples. Example software code will be included where relevant.
