The Hapag-Lloyd Unit Leaves ATL, Amtrak 19, Pacing Trains and the Transfer Waits on a Combo

When we arrive at Howell's wye we hear the sound of diesels approaching from CSX yard. We hurry to setup the drone but because it's cold the camera gimbal refuses to initialize. We power down and back up and by the time we're in the air the train is heading out onto the main. It's definitely the Hapag-Lloyd unit leading that we've heard was in town so we hurry to one of the two early sun positions on the wye. But unfortunately it's too early for the sun at this time of year so we do the best we can and follow it around the curves towards Jefferson street. Not the best shots I've ever taken but we did the best we could under the circumstances. Quickly after it clears a short CSX local pulls out onto the main following it. We're still setting up the batteries and cables so apologies for the background noises. Then we watch the local back towards Pine street to drop off cars. A crew is working a stack at Inman and we see fog covering the yard beyond the bridge. Then along comes Amtrak 19 with tow Siemens units, one in a heritage scheme leading. As it passes Inman we see the stack train in the yard and another combo train sitting on the main waiting for Amtrak to clear. Then the combo train departs heading south and the stack departs heading north up the Greenville line, pacing each other for a bit. Not long after they clear we catch a westbound stack with several Maersk containers up front. Some light engines sit in the yard. Then we hear the sound of EMD's coming out of CSX yard and it's the morning transfer train, this time with a single SD40-2 and a GP40 slug set. They stop at the signal to wait for a combo train coming off the Greenville line, former 237 with freight up front and auto racks in the back.
