In this video we visit Woy Woy, a busy station in the New South Wales' Central Coast along the Main Northern Line. We visit the station in early July 2024 when Transport Heritage New South Wales were operating their Gosford steam shuttles with steam locomotive 6029 Beyer-Garratt and diesel locomotive 4201. We see the steam train pass through the station a couple of times throughout the video.
In-between the steam shuttles we see the usual passenger and freight rail traffic along the Main Northern Line. Woy Woy is served by Sydney Trains services on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line, but given that this video was filmed on a weekend we only see Oscar (H Set) EMU's, except for a sneaky Endeavour transfer. We also see a NSW Trainlink Xplorer DMU's heading north of the Armidale/Moree Xplorer service. We also see numerous freight trains including some Pacific National intermodals, the Crawfords Freighter operated by Southern Shorthaul Railroad.
Woy Woy station opened on the 1st February 1889 as part of the final part of the connection between Gosford and Hawkesbury River, which completed the Main Northern Line between Sydney and Newcastle.
