Can you catch summer walleye in shallow water?

On this episode of Angling Spiders, I head to McGregor Lake in Alberta to find out! 🎣

I started the day with my trusted bottom bouncers, then switched things up with crankbaits and jigs. The walleye weren’t biting deep, but when I changed tactics and moved into the weed beds and shallows, everything changed. What started as a search for walleye turned into a mix of pike action and some unexpected giant shallow-water walleye!

Highlights of this trip:
✅ Pike in the weed beds 🎯
✅ Multiple big walleye caught in just 4–8 feet of water
✅ Proving that sometimes, switching tactics pays off

Even with some kayak troubles at the end, it turned into a fantastic day with 8 total fish landed, including 6 walleye I never expected to find shallow in midsummer.
