Prior to an increase in hunters getting into the bush for the roar, we take the opportunity to head into the southern end of the Aorangi Forest Park to see if there are any good stags around.
We have an early start from Wellington to get to our drop off point, before we commence our hike.
We manage to ID a few animals, but opt not to shoot anything, but not for the lack of trying.
On these longer day hunts where we are completing circa 18km, carrying a heavier rifle makes for a harder day.
Good to see other hunters wearing bright clothing, making them easy to identify at range.
