Erbil, the capital of Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, is one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities.
Today, it also serves as the political centre of a nation that many Kurds consider their country; but which does not officially exist on the world map.
In this video, I explore the Erbil Citadel, Qayseri Bazaar, and the Mudhafaria Minaret, tracing how Erbil’s deep history connects to the modern Kurdish struggle for recognition.
This is the first video in my Iraqi Kurdistan video series.
This video series was produced while I was on assignment for Wanderlust Magazine. Thanks to Visit Kurdistan and Gerrok Tourism for hosting me.
