Burkina Faso has made history. President Ibrahim Traoré halted the release of genetically modified mosquitoes , a billion-dollar project promoted as a fight against malaria but viewed by many as another foreign experiment.

This is not the first time. BT cotton failed and left farmers in poverty. AGRA was launched to end hunger but left Africa more dependent on costly seeds and chemicals. Now the same story repeats, technologies designed abroad, tested first in Africa.
