This sonata is an interesting one... emotionally, there is an element of tragedy in it, and a sort of 'cathartic' moment with the descending sequence. E minor generally is a very sad and sorrowful key, and I think this sonata is a perfect example of that.
I hope that by listening to my recording you can find something insightful about this music!
