Road Cycling - Thursday Blast 12.06.25

So the wind’s south-easterly, my optimism’s north of delusional, and I pick Bloxholme Lane like I’ve got the legs of a 25-year-old and not a bloke who needed two coffees just to put socks on.

Four of us rolled out, including a new guy — Ian Lucky. Lucky for me, because my legs clearly RSVP’d “no” to tonight’s effort. Then Colin shows up — after saying he wasn’t coming because he “wanted an easy one.” Yeah? If that was an easy ride, then I’m a flying Dutchman with carbon lungs. He was pushing like a steam train on a caffeine drip.

And of course, Michael the Human Dynamo was there. The man doesn’t ride — he generates power. Relentless. Like he’s personally offended by gravity.

I held on for dear life, heart rate somewhere in the “might see God soon” zone. But by the time we were ripping down Brant Road at 30 mph, they were slipping away from me like my will to ever do this again.

Dropped? Yes. Regret? None. Legs are cooked, lungs are toast, and that’s another Thursday blast in the books.
