G.I. Joe: The Atlantis Factor Playthrough (NES) (DEATHLESS)

While highly aware of the original G.I. Joe NES game, I was however not aware for a long time that there was a sequel to that game. And a very solid sequel too! Picking up right after the first game, Cobra Commander has attacked the Joes and has raised the lost island of Atlantis to resurrect Cobra Commander and to harness and unleash its secret and devastating power on the way to world domination. Guess who's job it is to stop Cobra Commander...again. While very similar to the first game in almost all its aspects (game play, music, controls, visuals etc.) the biggest difference is you start out with one character and then as you make your way through all the different levels and the multiple branching paths you rescue/uncover more characters to add to your strike team and new, powerful boss-killing weapons. Except they also need to be leveled up just like your regular gun and melee attacks. This is where I find the game to be more strategetic and in couple ways more difficult then the first game. While the game gives you a pretty open way to explore Atlantis and defeat Cobra anyway you want for the most part, it is HIGHLY recommended that you do some levels/routes first or in some order so that not only do you uncover more characters, weapons and such but some levels along the way are more or less designed to make it easy to level up your weapons and characters so that the boss fight in the next level or so is much, much more doable and nowhere near as frustratingly difficult (learned that the hard way with Firefly...). I find that the game's multiple branching paths and slightly more strategetic game play approach could make this game arguably a bit superior to the more linear and straightforward original game. While which is the better game I'll leave that up to you. For me the game is a bit more difficult because I always had a difficult time remembering which order to do all the levels/routes in so that the boss battles wouldn't be as hard lol. Speaking of the bosses, for the most part if you have the right weapon leveled up and the right character leveled up properly with enough ammo (just like the first game, minus the special weapons) then most bosses are rather easy, almost to the point of them being push overs. But if you don't...then your in for a nasty and very hard battle in a lot of cases. Firefly, Cesspool and Destro come to mind immediately.....yet oddly if you make it to Cobra Commander leveled up correctly I found him MUCH EASIER this time around then in the first game, which I'm not complaining about either lol. Overall this game is a very, very solid sequel. More like a Part 2 then anything. So if you enjoyed the first G.I. Joe game then I think this would a great follow-up to pick up and play. Finding the game though, although not quite as pricey as the first game currently, is going up in price steadily. So if you want the actual cartridge it's not cheap but with a bit of looking around online you should be able to find one for hopefully a decentish price. YO JOE! Thanks for watching!!!
