Despite having an exterior shaft, this elevator is not panoramic. However, it does have windows in the doors, although the shaft doors on the second floor do not. This floor, which is one floor above street level, is occupied by a restaurant. On the upper two floors, where the elevator shaft is separated from the building itself by open hallways, there are some apartments. The first floor is mostly open and serves as a small parking lot. The elevator moves at a decent speed for its travel distance. A somewhat notable feature is the curved ceiling of the cab.
This video contains additional footage of Arima Onsen, the onsen town this apartment is located in. The town center gets a lot of its character from the traditional architecture style, which more famously can also be found in the old town of Kyoto. Situated within the city limits of Kobe, Arima Onsen feels more like a small spa town, as Mount Rokko lies between it and the main parts of Kobe. It is served by a branch line of the Kobe Electric Railway. Another way to reach Arima Onsen is to arrive at Rokko railway station ( • Unknown winding drum glass elevator at Rok... ) and then take the funicular up the mountain. A cable car down the other side of the mountain has its bottom station fairly close to the town center, although it takes almost an hour to walk from the upper station of the funicular to that of the cable car.
