Mantrascapes 1 - Vajra Guru Mantra

Welcome to my Mantrascapes series that I intend to run continuously for as long as I post here on YouTube. In each video recorded in high quality 3D audio, I wish to take you on an immersive intimate journey of sacred sound from various locations of natural beauty and power, and on occasion due to weather problems from inside when necessary.

The idea of this series is to inspire and share my love of sound healing with mantras, and for us to journey together across and beyond time and space. I wish for these healing soundscapes to provide the listener a space of deep relaxation, healing, and meditation. I hope they bring you as much peace and joy as they do for me to create and share with you here.

In this series I fully intend on varying the locations and mantras used, and I will be adding little sonic surprises intuitively to the recordings as we go along. Various instruments, combinations and collaborations. I will be using everything from raw unedited audio to multitrack recordings using experimental mixing techniques.

This first session is completely raw and unedited, with no loops or effects used, and the only processing used here was the addition of a limiter. This was recorded on a very hot day ( a rarity in the UK ) in a special corner of a field on the edges of a forest. In the tall grasses swaying in the breeze you will hear crickets and insects buzzing.

Here for this session I have recorded the best part of an hours continuous recitation of the Vajra Guru Mantra of Padmasambhava also known as Guru Rinpoche. The form I have used here has a particular focus on rhythmical content more so than melodic structures. Again as the series continues I will be using many different ways of voicing and accompaniment.

You may notice me using in the recording mainly the original Sanskrit :
Om Ah Hum Vajra Guru Padma Siddhi Hum
but also the Tibetan version :
Om Ah Hung Benza Guru Pema Siddhi Hung

I love and use both and both are equally as beautiful as the other. This mantra is very dear to me and now in my forties I have been using and saying this mantra since I was 14 in this life. On occasions I may include '' meanings '' of the mantras but I do wish for people to feel into and be present with the sounds, more so than worrying about set meanings, of which there are an infinite array and display anyway.
