🌉 Vadduvakal Bridge is not just a crossing point—it is a symbol of a pivotal moment in Sri Lanka's civil war. In May 2009, during the final stages of the conflict, tens of thousands of Tamil civilians crossed this very bridge, fleeing the control of the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) and surrendering to the Sri Lanka Army in a desperate bid to save their lives.

The LTTE, also known as the Tamil Tigers, was a separatist militant group that waged a 26-year war seeking an independent Tamil state. Puthukuduirippu and Mullaitivu were two of their strongest strongholds. Today, these areas are slowly recovering, showing signs of healing, development, and resilience.

As we drive through this once war-torn landscape, you’ll see peaceful rural scenery, deserted roads, checkpoints, and local communities going about their day—unaware, perhaps, that these roads once carried the weight of history.
