Mbira Lesson at SOAS University, London – “Bhukatiende” 🎵
In this video, we’re back with the beautiful Zimbabwean Mbira song “Bhukatiende”, this time at normal speed with students who have practiced and mastered the basics.
We’re not just playing the song—we’re also introducing challenging variations to help students:
Build focus and precision
Maintain the correct patterns
Keep the rhythm steady even when other variations are introduced
This lesson highlights the importance of concentration and practice in mastering traditional Mbira music. Watching students apply these techniques at SOAS University shows how dedication and guidance can turn beginners into confident players.
At Chaminuka Mbira School, we teach:
Mbira – the central instrument of Zimbabwean music
Hosho/Shakers – keeping the rhythm alive
Ngoma/Drums – traditional beats and energy
Marimba/Xylophones – harmony and melody
Whether you’re learning for fun or aiming to master Zimbabwean spiritual music, this video demonstrates how practice, patience, and focus pay off.
